Gala of the Five Senses, Four Seasons Hotel

With much pleasure the Board of Trustees invites you and your guests for a very special Gala Evening on Monday, December 9, 2019 to celebrate the past and future of the Grandhouse International Club.

The venue is the Zrínyi Passage and Andrássy Room at the Four Seasons Hotel.

The program is as follows:

6.30 pm – 7.15 pm: registration, purchase of tombola/raﬄes tickets and a welcome champagne in the Zrínyi Passage.

7.15 pm – 7.30 pm: ﬁnding your seat “with the help of nose and eyes”

7.30 pm - 11.00 pm: Gala Dinner in the Andrássy Room. During which:

Presentation by Dr Haroon Sheikh, an advisor to the Dutch Government on geo-political aﬀairs. The title of his subject is: „Clash of the Cycles – a framework for global change”.
A short ﬂute recital by Zsuzsanna Virág Csabaywith works from Telemann and Piazzolla

11.00 pm - 11.30 pm: coﬀee/tea and drawing of the Tombola/Raﬄes prize for the winning table of the “Five Senses Contest”

Brief background information of our speaker, Dr. Haroon Sheikh

Haroon Sheikh is senior scientist at the Dutch Scientiﬁc Council for Government Policy, where he currently works on AI and changing international relations. He also teaches philosophy at VU University in Amsterdam. Sheikh studied philosophy, public administration and political science in Leiden and Oxford. He wrote his PhD in philosophy on the inﬂuence of tradition on modern societies under supervision of the German philosopher Peter Sloterdijk.

A commercial version of the book has been published entitled Embedding Technopolis. In Dutch he has written two
books on geopolitics and what he calls hydropolitics. Sheikh worked as senior strategist at investment ﬁrms Cyrte and Dasym and founded the private Amsterdam-based institution Freedomlab Thinktank.

Sheikh is a regular contributor to the main Dutch newspapers NRC Handelsblad and Het Financieele Dagblad. His work has been featured in The Financial Times and Foreign Aﬀairs.
